The Ornery Shepherd Gulf Coast Native Wool Yarn

Gulf Coast Native is a critically-endangered heritage breed native to the SE region of the US, descended from the flocks brought by explorers & settlers from Spain beginning in the 1500s. Over the years they’ve become well-adapted to the heat & humidity of the South & have developed a natural resistance to various parasites & diseases (allowing them to be managed more sustainably than most sheep breeds).

The wool for this yarn was sourced from small family farm flocks (including The Ornery Shepherd’s), all beloved by their shepherds & all well known for the high quality of their wool.

Spun at a 200+ year old family-run mill on the last working spinning-mule in the US.
